Lammas 20.03
Well, yesterday was the halfway point between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox - it was a little hard to decide how best to celebrate it... There is a lot of mixed information out there, and unfortunately it is hard to figure out what parts are accurate, and which are highly embellished by new age neo-pagans. At any rate, we decided on a meal containing seasonal vegetables, and especially corn. In terms of the primary center point of the mean, we do like doing meats - and when I think of farming, I think of little rabbits darting in and out of the fields. So, we went with Hasenpfeffer!
The corn was particularly fun because it was both easy, and decorative - seriously just put unpeeled corn into an oven at 350F, take out after 30-35 minutes, peel away and tie with one of the husks, and there you go - a decorative way to present corn with a handle! The fritters contain carrot and squash, though the recipe also includes zucchini - we just didn't have any. The rabbit was braised for a brief time and then the remaining flavors were thickened to make a gravy which went excellently with the food and the fritters. I was GOING to make Lammas bread but I was tired and when I finally thought about making bread, I realized it'd probably need some time to rise and so that will have to wait for another day. Paired with a delicious Riesling.
Overall, it was a delicious meal to enjoy the peak of the summer harvest!
